Nearly 50!

The Sampson Community Club was established in 1955 as a non-profit organization. It was created to preserve Historic Buildings, to gather as groups to meet new neighbors, to stay in touch with each other, enjoy Social events and work together to maintain these buildings as well as our community. Your $20.00 yearly dues help support these activities. Please send them to the Sampson Comm. Club, 16150 Sampson Rd., Littleton, CO 80127.

2002/2003 Board News

The Board is proposing the Sampson Schoolhouse for "Historical Landmark" status. If accepted, the Schoolhouse could receive funds to help maintain it!

* * * Mountain Road Protocol * * *

2 vehicles meet on a narrow mountain road. The vehicle going DOWN should stop, then back up, allowing the vehicle going UP to pass as it is too dangerous to back down a mountain road.

Please DON'T Speed. There are people and critters on the roads.

If you haven't already, put away the bird feeders.

Don't store trash in your house or garage.

Keep food in the refrigerator and make noise when outside.

The Greenhouse Corner

At the 1st of each month, from now through August, be sure to feed your Roses, Vegies, Fruit trees and Berries! And layer on the Mulch. 4 - 6" will help keep the moisture in and the weeds out.

I tried something new this season, inter-planting my Cold Weather and Summer Harvest Vegies. When I planted my Cold Weather vegies in April, I left enough room in between them to plant my summer vegies. For example, in between the Peas planted in April, I transplanted, (over the Memorial Day weekend), Corn on the Cob and a variety of Squash. And, in between the Beets, (April planting), I transplanted Bell and Jalapeno Peppers. So far, so good! The next inter-planting will take place in late June. I'll plant Cold Weather vegies, again, in or near the same place I planted them in April. This will give me 3 harvests of fresh vegies this season! Try it yourself and keep me posted.

     Tomato Talk

Did you know that Tomatoes are called, "The Garden Wardens"? That's because they are a type of water monitor. If your Tomato plants are standing tall, they, and the rest of your vegies have enough moisture. If they're droopy, your garden needs watering.

Next issue, "Rhubarb What?"

Blizzard Blessings                                                                                     Page 3

We thank you, Lord, for the 5' of Liquid Gold, for your guidance and instruction to my spouse to stock the freezer and pantry the day before, for nagging me to cut more firewood and move it closer to the house the weekend prior to the Blizzard, for waking me from my dreams with the message, "Fill the gas can.", for my supportive spouse who cheered on my snow shovel, for our tasty and exciting Candlelight dinners and especially for helping us keep our sense of humor. Amen.

The only damage from the Blizzard to the Lamb School was some broken limbs and "Le Twalet" was pushed over on its side.

Sampson Community Club Calendar

May 4      9 - 12:00 Mountain Mama Breakfast      Sampson School

Don't Ask For Bacon! In 1984, Suzanne Welder and Bryn Shepeck, the Founders of the Mountain Mama Breakfast, and Bryn's sister, Carla, were cooking Bacon for the Mountain Mama Breakfast.

Suzanne was frying 5 pounds of Bacon. She told this writer that she "was turning green" from looking at the Bacon grease she was disposing of in a coffee can. When she finished, Suzanne went to Bryn's house where Bryn and Carla were frying and Microwaving 10 pounds of Bacon.

There was Bacon grease in 5 pound coffee cans, grease all over the floor and these two ladies were gray. It's because of this "colorful" experience, not to mention the slippery floors, that no Bacon has been served at the Mountain Mama Breakfast since 1984!

Prior to 1984, Suzanne was visiting in Michigan. She attended a fund raising Breakfast. Inspired and excited, she shared her experience and talents and helped create the Mountain Mama Breakfast.
