    Unclutter

A lot of folks are really busy, aren't they?  Are you busy, too?

Well, if you're busy because you're doing the mundane chores of life, that's not good.  If you're busy because you're doing your passion, that's good!

Here's a wonderful affirmation to say to yourself, many times, if you're not doing your passion.  The affirmation comes from Dr. Wayne Dyer.  "As I unclutter my life, I free myself to answer the calling of my soul."     :-)

Annual Meeting Update:  New Chairs

During the Annual Membership Meeting on Nov. 21, 2009, the subject of buying new chairs for the schoolhouse was discussed.  As you probably know, a majority of the chairs are pretty rickety and soiled beyond cleaning.  The membership approved buying 40 new, comfortable, lightweight chairs.  We now need a rack for the 40 chairs.  Anyone that knows of a used or new one, please contact Bob Vick.

Annual Meeting Update:  S-t-r-e-t-c-h Your Grocery Dollar…

…by growing your own veggies!  Hagrid's Garden, the garden down by the schoolhouse, will not be used this coming year to grow the giant pumpkins.  It will be available for those people interested in having a vegetable garden!  While the 9 giant pumpkins didn't grow to be giants, they did grow to anywhere from ½ to 5 pounds and the corn, sunflowers, cabbage, cauliflower, kale, peppers, and tomatoes were successfully grown (and delicious!)

The garden will be divided into 4 sections, each section approximately 15 feet by 24 feet - a good-sized garden!  You will need to do your own tilling, planting, watering, and weeding.  The schoolhouse will supply the water and a load of topsoil.  The club is asking for a donation of $40.00 per section.  Since the garden was one of several topics of discussion at the annual meeting, one member at the meeting immediately laid claim to one section.  So, there are 3 sections left!  If you'd like additional information, please contact Dee Lee at (303) 697-2558.  By the way, there will be another "Gardener's Cache - Plant & Seed Swap" this coming spring!

Canyon Road Safety

The Sampson Community Club board and Bike Jeffco have formed the Deer Creek Roads Safety Coalition (The Coalition).  The Coalition is comprised of no more than 8 members representing residents and bicyclists (all users) working together to make the canyon roads safer, promoting mutual respect for all users and residents, while maintaining the beauty and peace of the canyon.

The Coalition is developing ideas to promote these goals, with the help from Sheriff's Department, residents, Intercanyon Fire Department, and county staff.  If you have any questions or have ideas to improve the road safety, please contact Virginia Temmer at (303) 697-7272 or virginia@broadspoke.net, or Bob Vick at (303) 697-0954 or bvickr@msn.com.

     The New Board of Directors…

President, Virginia Temmer (303) 697-7272 11032 Mill Hollow Road virginia@broadspoke.net

Virginia was born in Denver, and lived in the Denver area until 1996, when she moved to the foothills with her two children, Kevin and Michelle.  She also has three cats.  She retired from the Federal Government in April 2009, and is busy with home improvements and her 97-year old father.

An avid skier, Virginia volunteered for 15 years with the Sports Center for the Disabled.  She spends many winter weekends at Winter Park, playing there with friends and family.

Virginia has spent time working on the buildings, coordinating volunteers, and doing other jobs as needed. Her goals include improvements to the Sampson School, and eventual restoration of Lamb School.  She normally coordinates the calendar for rentals, and has been an officer of the Sampson Community Club for several years.

Vice President, Jan Clawson (303) 697-4493 12213 S. Maxwell Hill Rd.

As your new Vice President of the Sampson Community Club, a little bio of me, Jan Clawson.

I was born and grew up in Nebraska, attending the University of Nebraska, and continue to be a loyal Cornhusker.  Coffee Pot Hill or Maxwell Hill Road, for those of you who haven't read the book, has been my home for over 40 years.  Floods, blizzards, and many changes have occurred in that time.  When people ask me about my family, I tell them I have one of everything:  one son, one daughter, one grandson, one granddaughter, and one cat.

My church takes much of my time.  I volunteer in the senior care centers in the Littleton area.  I read a lot, mostly nonfiction.  I don't have a computer and I don't want one because I'm too busy.

I believe in the Sampson Community Club.  At times, whether we are aware of it or not, the Sampson Community Club is the voice for the rest of us on issues that involve all of us.  It's important to become involved and stay involved by attending social events such as the Pig Roast, the Ice Cream Social, the Thanksgiving dinner, and so forth.  Your presence is needed to build a strong community.

Treasurer, Bob Vick (303) 697-0954 12123 S. Maxwell Hill Road bvickr@msn.com

Bob, along with his wife Pat, moved to the Denver area in 1977 upon Bob's retirement from the US
Air Force.  They bought property on Maxwell Hill Road in '84, built between '85 and '88, and moved in '88. Both have been very active with the Denver Museum of Miniatures Dolls and Toys on the Board in several positions.  Bob was Treasurer four times.  Also active in the Colorado Cactus and Succulent Society, Bob was Treasurer and President each, twice, over 18 years.  Finally getting rid of the third treasurer job Bob has had concurrently with two others.

Bob retired from the Environmental Protection Agency in 2003.  He taught Solar Energy Technology at Red Rocks Community College '80 to '86.  He is still involved with renewable energy programs and does some consulting work on passive solar design and active solar systems.  And he is the volunteer coordinator for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program in Littleton at Bemis Library from January to April.

Bob and Pat enjoy traveling and go on trips to Miniature Shows (Pat makes and sells accessories for Doll Houses), family visits and on ocean cruises.  They have been members of the Sampson Community Club for over 16 years.

Secretary, Janie Lambert (303) 697- 8933 11972 S. Maxwell Hill Road coloradolamberts@yahoo.com

Janie Lambert is a stay-at home mom who is involved in various school activities, PTA, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, community and church events.  Taking care of her husband and children keeps her busy.  She was born in western Kentucky into a large family, #11 of 15 children.  Their house was big and very busy!  Her parents, both in their 80's now, are alive and healthy.

She met husband, Brian Lambert, aboard the Queen Elizabeth 2 in 1990.  They had a shipboard romance, which led to marriage later on.  She left Kentucky in 1991 and moved to Redondo Beach, California, where she lived for 6 years and where daughter, Audrey Ann, was born.  They left California in 1997 and moved to Littleton, Colorado, where son, Liam Geoffrey, was born.

They have lived on Maxwell Hill Rd. since 1998 and have been active members in the Sampson Community club for several years.

     Hogwarts School Sessions

It was truly Halloween at Hogwarts this past Fall Session.  Halloween decorations, black cat and orange pumpkin cups held candy corn and peanut butter eyeballs, and mini-pumpkins and gourds from Hagrid's Garden adorned the school.

During Professor Dumbledore's welcoming speech, usually a time of student silence, a great deal of chattering was going on.  The students were calling each other's attention to the "floating" pumpkin next to Professor Dumbledore, a pumpkin that was being levitated by Professor Wysard.

In Potions class, taught by Professor Snuckle, the subject matter was Chromatography or separating colors in a green leaf.  Paper filters captured the different colors that were separated out of the each different type of leaf.

The History of Halloween was the topic in Professor Wondyle's Talisman Shielding class.  Professor
Lucien, a good friend of Professor Wondyle, shared some Celtic Halloween history.  Ghost stories told by some of the students were shared before Professor Wondyle concluded his class with the story of, "The Great Pumpkin."  In this story, it was told that "The Great Pumpkin" either bestows gifts upon good students or leaves an empty pumpkin for not-so-good students.  To find out which one our students are, Professor Wondyle took a very large pumpkin outside.  Professor Wondyle threw it into the air and as it hit the ground and splattered open, from its contents, it was obvious; our students have been good!

Professor Wanderoso, the Wizard's Chess Overseer, was delighted to see that several of our new students knew how to play chess.  After reviewing the rules of this competition of the minds, the games began. First, Hufflepuff and the Ravenclaw Houses played each other then the Gryffindor and the Slytherin Houses played game #2.  The Wizard's Chess Championship match was thoughtfully played between the Ravenclaw and Slytherin Houses and once again, the Slytherin House won.

Professor Hopkirk's Trivia sessions were broken down into three classifications of difficulty:  hard, harder, and very difficult.  She even allowed the students to "try to stump" her with trivia questions.  They could not.

After a delicious feast of chicken, potatoes, corn, and rolls, eight Wizard's Chess trophies were awarded to the individual players then the Wizard's Chess House Cup, a seven-headed dragon with red eyes, was awarded to the Slytherin House.  Next, the House Cup was awarded to the Ravenclaw House.  They won with 550 points.  At the conclusion of this magical Fall Session, the students were reminded to take home either a mini-pumpkin or a gourd from Hagrid's Garden and a chocolate frog.

The winning House Cup standings are as such:  2007 Summer Session, the Hufflepuff House; 2007 Fall Session, the Ravenclaw House; the 2008 Winter Session, the Hufflepuff House; 2008 Spring Session, the Ravenclaw House; the 2008 Fall Session, the Slytherin House; the 2009 Winter Session, the Hufflepuff House; the 2009 Spring Session, the Ravenclaw House, and the 2009 Fall Session, the Ravenclaw House.

The Championship Quidditch Tournament awards now stand as such:  2008 Spring Session, the Ravenclaw House; the 2008 Fall Session, the Gryffindor House; and the 2009 Spring Session, the Ravenclaw House.

And the Championship Wizard's Chess Tournament awards now stand as such: 2009 Winter Session, the Slytherin House and the 2009 Fall Session, the Slytherin House.

Congratulations to all the winning Houses!
