Hogwarts School Sessions
The July 8, 2007 "Hogwarts Summer School" event was a great success. Students were enthusiastic, well behaved, and quite knowledgeable in the Harry Potter Trivia Contest conducted by Madam Rosmerta. All the students had hands-on lessons in each class: Divinations taught by Professor Snodgrass, Herbology taught by Professor Wysard, and Potions taught by Professor Snuckle.
All the students learned their lessons well as was evidenced by Headmaster, Professor Dumbledore's pop-quiz prior to the banquet dinner. He asked two questions regarding their classes, "What was the most important thing you learned in class?" and then a specific question per class, such as from the Herbology class, "Where are you not to plant your herbs?" Following tradition, points were awarded to the House that correctly answered Professor Dumbledore's questions and points were taken away from a House for answering incorrectly.
After a wonderful dinner of chicken, potatoes, corn, and rolls, the House Cup was awarded to the Hufflepuff House because they earned 1620 points throughout the session. The students of the Hufflepuff House were the first students allowed to indulge in dessert: the chocolate fountain!
The September 8, 2007 "Hogwarts Fall Session" was as equally a tremendous success. Once again, the students were attentive in class and enthusiastic throughout their day. This session of hands-on classes included Divination taught by Professor Snodgrass, Hodge Podgeology taught by Professor Wysard, and Potions II taught by Professor Sniggleworth.
During the students' stretch and snack break at Hogsmeade, Madam Rosmerta conducted her greatly anticipated Harry Potter Trivia Contest then sent the students across the field to see "Astro," the alpaca, a magical creature who is cared for by Barbara Asprey & Dave Pettus.
This session, the Ravenclaw House was awarded the House Cup because they earned the most points for good behavior, helpfulness, and participation. For dessert after the feast, the students enjoyed the chocolate fountain, chocolate frogs, and pumpkin ice cream.

Hogwarts events taken by Robert Manzanares and Mike Lee, Staff Photographers
for the Daily Prophet newspaper, please visit the club's website. The photos
are on the Current Year's Photo Album page. And you might want to check in
frequently with the club's website: a third Hogwarts event is in the planning
stage.
If you missed
the Barbecue and Ice Cream Social, you missed good company and great homemade ice cream! We had honey, honey vanilla, peach, and pumpkin ice cream and lots of yummy toppings and great food.
the Pig Roast, you missed a great opportunity to visit with your neighbors and indulge your palette with roasted pig as well as a wonderful assortment of mouth-watering salads, breads, and delicious desserts. You also missed the water balloon toss and tours of the Lamb school.
Phillipsburg
Did you know that David Blanscet purchased Phillipsburg? He's going to put in a convenience store.
On Location: "The Five"
Hey, did you know that certain parts of the movie "The Five" were filmed on location on Sampson Road this past July? The filming lasted approximately five days during which time the Ladco Company used the schoolhouse as their base. They hired a few of "the locals" to help out with location selections and whatnots, they built a wooden tunnel entrance prop (one of the movie centerpieces) and staged three circle fires. (Yes, the Fire Department was on hand) A Ladco spokesman, for those concerned, told us they would not reveal where they filmed the picture in order to protect our privacy. The Sampson Comm-unity Club may be the location of a premier showing of the movie.
Poker Night
The Sampson Community Club would like to host "Poker Night." We are considering one evening every four to six weeks for three to four hours. We need more input before we set "Poker Night" into our Events Calendar. To those of you who enjoy playing poker, please call Virginia Temmer (303) 697-7272 and give her your ideas: how often you'd enjoy playing a friendly game, length of the evening, etc.

Chili Cook-Off October 27th 5:00 p.m.
Yes we're combining three events this year: the Chili Cook-Off, the Halloween Potluck Dinner, and the Halloween Party!
On the 27th at 5:00 p.m., our Chili Cook-Off
begins! Bring a big pot of your hot and sassy, not so hot and sassy, "special
ingredient," delicious homemade chili down to the schoolhouse around
4:30 p.m. to plug your crock-pot in or set your chili pot on the hot plate,
get your entry number, and meet the other contestants. The judges (almost
all of us) will taste then judge the chili. At 6:00 p.m., the winners will
be
announced and awarded 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes. Our three winners will,
hopefully, share their chili recipe for publication in the December issue
of the Squeaky Squirrel.
Chili Cook-Off coordinator: Dee Lee (303) 697-2558.
After the Chili Cook-Off awards
are presented, the Halloween Potluck Dinner begins. Please bring a dish to
share and perhaps a ghost story to tell. The Halloween Party begins after
dinner.
Halloween Party coordinator: Janie Lambert (303)
697-8933.
Annual Membership Mtg./Thanksgiving Dinner November 17th 5:00 p.m.
This is the time of the year when our Board
Members thank the membership for their support and for attending the events.
They also ask for feedback or suggestions on new events, resolve any problems,
ask for suggestions on how to help the club develop, and also elect new officers.
The officers nourish the club; their main focus is unity in the community and their second focal point is the season's events. Our club needs active participation by both the membership and the officers and the officers need to be planners with vision, have the willingness to help make a positive difference in the club and our community, and be willing to help organize and participate in the events - the club's main source of revenue. The rewards of being an officer and participating in our club are several: comrade-ship, making new friendships, finding the babysitter or the handyman you need, connecting with fellow gardeners or crafters, sharing your wisdom and expertise, and making a difference in our community.
We ask that you please consider running for
Vice President or Treasurer in November and the office of the President is
still open. Questions? Call Virginia Temmer (303) 697-7272.
So come on down November 17th with a dish to
share and join us for Thanksgiving dinner, renew your membership or become
a member then run for office or volunteer to help in some capacity.
Coordinator: Virginia Temmer (303) 697-7272.
