Ice
Cream, Ice Cream
Did you know
that the biggest ice cream sundae was 12 feet tall? It was made from 4,667
gallons of ice cream. Source: ice-cream-recipes.com.
Something else you might find very interesting: "Many stories abound of famous people enjoying early forms of ice cream - from the Roman Emperor Nero who is said to have had snow brought down from the mountains to freeze his favorite drinks, to Marco Polo who returned from the Far East with a type of ice cream sorbet recipe, to King Charles I of England whose cook developed a frozen cream recipe.
The first step towards giving us the kind of ice cream we enjoy today was made by Nancy Johnson (USA) who invented the hand-crank freezer (1846). In the 1920's Clarence Vogt produced the first continuous process freezer which opened up the possibility for commercial ice cream manufacture." Source: ice-cream-recipes.com.
Got Junk?
Do you have some "stuff" that is taking up space, and no one in his or her right or wrong mind would want it? Bring the stuff to the Sampson Community Club on August 6th and save yourself a trip to the dump!
Adding to the Roll-Off Dumpster
will be on a "first come, first serve" basis. When the Roll-Off
is full, it's full, and you must take your stuff back with you. Bring your
discards of carpeting, scrap wood, etc. between 9 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. for a nominal
per cubic foot donation (Our Cubic Foot Estimator will have the final say.) Please,
NO toxic items in the Roll-Off. If there is enough interest in renting a
Roll-Off again, we will take names.
We had a great time
at the Kid's Mystery Party! The cast of 13 played their parts with gusto and studied the clues left by the murderer. As Fred (Richard Woods) hung lifelessly over a bail of hay, the cast concluded who the guilty party was as they ate pizza, salad, cookies, and brownies, and drank tea or soda from cactus-shaped shot glasses. The group agreed, "can't wait for next year's party."
at the Gardener's Cache - Plant & Seed Swap. Art Vandenburg shared his wealth of information and his 35-years of gardening wisdom with the participants. Flower and vegetable seeds, flowers and herbs, and houseplants were swapped and gardeners gathered up informative printouts. Finally, the gardeners in the area could get together to talk gardening and now there is talk, "of doing this again next year!"
at the Mountain Mama Breakfast. As in previous years, the guests were greeted cordially and seated quickly, and each Mom was given a beautiful fresh rose by one of our two flower girls. A delicious breakfast was served with a smile and included coffee, juice, biscuits and gravy, eggs and potatoes, spicy eggs, pancakes, syrup and jam, ham and sausage, and donuts.

Scrap
Bookers Wanted
Janet Clark "really
enjoys scrap booking," and is wondering if there are other scrap bookers
in the area. She would like to get a "Scrap Booking Meet" started so
folks can work on their pages together while they visit. Please give Janet
a call at (303) 514-7287 or (303) 697-2068 or e-mail her at janetclark01@aol.com.

The
Greenhouse Corner
In case you didn't make it to the Gardener's
Cache - Plant and Seed Swap, one of the print outs available was the "Gardener's
Calendar" by Dee Lee:
Watering & Feeding
Tomatoes are called, "The Garden Wardens,"
because they are a type of water monitor. If your tomato plants are standing
tall, they and the rest of your veggies have enough moisture. If they're
droopy, your garden needs watering.
Feed
your fruit trees, berries, veggies and roses approximately once per month throughout
the growing season, except for your roses. DON'T feed roses after August
1st.
Mid-July
If you want a
late fall harvest, plant cold weather vegetable seeds again: broccoli, brussels
sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, carrots, lettuce, peas, potatoes, spinach and onions.
June, July, August, and September
Water, feed, harvest, and enjoy!

The Ice Cream Social and Pig Roast are going to be a lot of fun, but they only last a couple of days of the summer.
